What A Beauty–Better Than Expected!

 on August 7, 2014
By K. M. Ellis
I bought this TV cabinet, first, because it was the perfect size; second, because it was an acceptable style; and, third, because it looked in the photo like it was the right color. Then, I noticed the price, and I knew that it was not real wood. Since it was going to be placed in my living room, I almost closed the web page because I did not intend to buy particle board furniture for that room. However, since it looked good in the photo, I decided to read some reviews. Many of the customers stated that once assembled, it looked like a piece of fine furniture. I was skeptical, but I thought that I would give it a try. At best, I’d like it and keep it. At worst, I’d donate it to Goodwill. Well, when I opened the box, I was astonished at the look of the finish. I compared it to a piece of dark cherry furniture and it had the same color, wood grain look, and sheen. That was a good sign, so I decided to assemble it. As I was doing so, it began to look better and better. Once the assembly was complete, I was very pleased. Of the many pieces in the box, none were damaged. However, the piece of “fascia” molding, for lack of a better term, between the column detail was about ½ inch too short. I centered it between the “columns” and screwed it into new holes that I drilled. If one looks closely, one can see a small gap on each side of it, but I’m satisfied with it. There is no shortage of assembly hardware. There are enough brackets, screws, locking cams, etc., to ensure that it is sturdily put together; it does not sway when moved. I had no problem putting it together by myself. I thought that the assembly instructions were clear and thorough. Once I organized the pieces, and separated the hardware, assembly was a cinch. I was astonished at the amount of weight that it will hold. I read in the assembly instructions that the top holds up to 95 pounds; the TV must be able to sit completely on this shelf; the shelves behind the doors hold up to 20 pounds each; the shelves in center compartment hold up to 30 pounds each; and the base platform, which includes the floor areas of all compartments, holds up to 50 pounds. Other features that I like are 1) all of the shelves are adjustable, 2) it has a cardboard back panel with 3 knock-out holes for cord management, and 3) it has concealed, inset adjustable hinges on the doors, which are very sturdy. I did change the door knobs; it came with silver-finished knobs and I wanted antique brass hardware; and I added stick-on, felt hardwood floor protectors. I agree with other reviewers that it looks much more expensive than it was. At $109 plus free shipping, I don’t think that I could have found a more perfect piece for the price.

WE ARE EXTREMELY IMPRESSED WITH EVERY SINGLE THING ABOUT THIS BEAUTIFUL TV STAND! WOMEN, YOU CAN DO THIS!

I’ve always thought Sauder was an ordinary, particleboard, office store-type product – W R O N G! I am extremely impressed with every single aspect of this beautiful TV stand.

Beautiful piece !!

It’s beautiful. Okay yes, you have to put it together, but the directions are thorough and straight forward. It took me about five hours because at first I was screwing everything in manually, then I used a drill and wood glue, it was a breeze. The color is exactly how it’s pictured online. The delivery was on time and packaged nicely. I would suggest though, get a drop cloth, I used a plastic one and lay out and identify all the pieces, screws, and etc. This way once you get started, you will be familiar with what you’re working with and you won’t want to stop until you’ve completed it. The end result is a beautiful, sturdy TV Stand for my 50″. Everyone that has seen it, says, “WOW”, and when I tell them the price, lol, they don’t believe me. It looks like it costs 4x the price. I would definitely buy other pieces from Sauder Palladia.

A very beautiful piece of furniture

Yes indeed it is a labor intensive project to assemble. If you have limited space you will need to spin it around so you don’t have to try to install screws at impossible angles. But like giving birth to a child, once the labor is over you forget the pains it took and just admire the finished product.

I am very pleased with this purchase!

I LOVE IT!!! Very easy to assemble, following the instructions and all parts and pieces sorted out before I started. It took me 2.5 hours to put together, but I had to use the electric drill otherwise it would take me longer to assemble this unit. It is awesome and elegant addition to my living room. It’s perfect for my 55″ LED TV. I am so happy with this purchase. It looks a lot better than the $300 unit I almost bought at a furniture store.

Nice looking but slightly disappointed

Having just recently purchased this item, I find myself somewhat split over my purchase decision. Ordering and delivery were just fine. The price isn’t bad and, this is, a rather nice looking unit which even accomodates my newly purchased, 55 inch curved UHD television, which has a stand in the center of its base rather than the widely spaced v-type stands that many televisions are now using. And my tv doesn’t even come close to the weight limits of this stand, so that’s also a plus. Historically, Sauder has produced some very, very nice ready to assemble furniture. Years ago, I purchased one of their computer desks, also laminated, which was absolutely perfect in every sense .. every piece was such that there were no seams (or white lines) visible along the edges of any piece. Looks just like real, solid wood no matter what angle you view it from. Unfortunately, I can’t say the same about this rather nice looking tv stand. Nice looking as it is, there is no doubt about its being a ready to assemble product. As with a great many (perhaps not all) ready to assemble products these days, some edges are just very prone to chipping. I rolled my finger over the bottom left corner edge of this unit, on the front, and sure enough, a very small section of that edge peeled right up. A paint pencil might be a quick cure for that however. Even the shelves themselves had small chips along their edges (nothing gross of course, but still noticeable if you happen to look). Am I being too finicky? Perhaps. It’s just a matter of opinion. I didn’t find assembly difficult as the instructions were rather good. For the most part, a good phillips screw driver was sufficient (but since I didn’t have a drill handy, I have to admit having to struggle with putting a few screws in.. but, that’s my bad. The doors fit nicely and are adjustable to ensure smooth operation. A little polish (pledge) helped to remove remnants of the small remaining particles of stryofoam packing residue, enhancing overall appearance and it looks quite nice at a distance. Up close however, I’m not terribly thrilled with the fact that you can most certainly tell that this is ready to assemble furniture. Simply by looking at the edges of many pieces, those edges reveal a sort of white line (for lack of a better word), where the laminate on each side of those pieces doesn’t quite marry up precisely. Again, referring back to my Sauder computer desk of years ago, the laminate was precise on every edge on every piece, so in this respect, I’m a tiny bit disappointed so I have to deduct one star.

Beautiful stand at a beautiful price! Just be patient.

I love this stand! I was looking for a television stand for my apartment. I wasn’t ready to purchase a heavy-duty living room set of furniture yet, but still wanted something that looks nice for my living room. The color of the stand matches the picture accurately, a nice rich brown. Sitting on my couch, you can’t even tell that it is particle board, and I have received compliments on this stand. The 2 shelves in the middle are fully adjustable, and there is one adjustable shelf in each end. The height inside the cabinets is enough to put DVD’s on both shelves. Inside the cabinets I can fit up to 80 DVD’s, and they are deep enough that you could put another row of DVD’s in front. (So if you put DVD’s 2 deep you could fit up to 160 DVD’s inside).

Decent for the Price

We have an extremely large TV launched on our bedroom wall, and I purchased this item to match the color of our bedroom furniture and to store media in (Blu Rays, and such) for us to use. This was a piece of furniture that I was able to put together myself, albeit it took me hours (I am a not-so-handy woman, but given decent instructions, I can put some stuff together). It stores an impressive amount of media and keeps it cleanly out of sight behind the doors, is very sturdy, and looks quite nice. I was able to put in/hook up our satellite box on one shelf in the middle, and hook up our Blu-Ray/stereo system box on another, so that we did not have to stack them messily on top of the unit. There are holes in the back of it to continue keeping cords tucked neatly out of sight. This keeps the top of it neat and tidy and easy to dust.

Decent TV Stand/Can take hours to assemble

By Redhead Designer,
(UPDATE – replacement items arrived on Monday after being ordered on Friday – very fast service at absolutely no cost to me) This time the box was in great condition. The item once assembled is heavy and looks good. It took hours to assemble over several days by myself. Be sure to use the right screws in the right places or you can damage some pieces. Instructions were detailed and easy to follow. It is shorter than my last tv stand which is fine for me but be sure to measure your space. I would never want to assemble another Sauder furniture item with so many pieces but the quality is good for the price.
